Feedback is a gift. Research is a must.

Updated: Mar 31, 2023

If you are receiving this blog, I consider you a part of my tribe, my village, and my community. I am so grateful for your vested interest in my author journey and would like to get your feedback and opinions.

The most consistent advice that I've received while educating myself and meeting with other authors is to research the industry of children's books. Here is the part where you all come in! Outside of what I already know, I'd like to get your feedback on children's books. If you are a parent or have ever been a child (which is basically everyone), this survey is for you!

Please access the link on my website, here, to be directed to a secure survey with six questions for you to answer. Thank you in advance for your feedback, it is very much appreciated!

Regarding research, I also spent some time at a Barnes & Noble bookstore this weekend. I went right up to the "Religion" section and focused on the children's area. To my delight, there were several other families perusing the religious children's books and that made me smile. I must have looked like a crazy woman recording myself pull the books off the shelf and examining the covers and their contents. Of the 30 books that I pulled only 3 of them had a Black child as the main character. My children have all sorts of books, but I search for books where they can relate and see themselves represented in the stories that they read. I honestly wanted to make sure that the reality of the religious children's book market supports my vision to increase Black representation in these types of books. With your help and feedback, I will be able to do just that!

Please remember to answer the questions on the survey link.
